Friday, December 6th Giveway

I just love buying gifts during the holiday season.  I try to think of what each person will enjoy and what will get used or cherished.  I try not to get anything that will get stuck in the back of the closet, never to be seen again.  My favorite person to buy for is my son, Sean.  First, he's super easy to buy for.  If it's an action figure or action figure related, he'll just love it.  Next, he gets so excited by every gift he opens.  His reaction is what gift giving is all about.  Last, he always says thank you.  He's the absolute PERFECT give givee!!

This week's question is, who is your favorite person to buy/give gifts to and why?

Just leave a comment by noon CST Friday, December 6th, and you can win the goodies below.  A winner be chosen using random.org and will be posted Friday afternoon.

Giveaway for Friday, November 30th

Every year the stores start putting out costumes for Halloween.  This always signals me to start thinking about the holidays.  I can't wait for Halloween to pass so I can start planning Thanksgiving dinner, Black Friday shopping, trimming the tree, decorating the yard, and planning my gift giving shopping list.  I start thinking about the true meaning of Christmas and I'm so thankful that God gave his son to us.  I start thinking about how important it is to make certain my children enjoy the holidays without losing sight of how blessed we are.  I also start thinking about how I can give back or help others.  Christmas is my absolute favorite time of the year because I truly believe most of the country if not the world is a little happier and a little more optimistic.

This week's question is what makes you feel like the holidays or the Christmas season has arrived?  Post a comment by noon CST Friday, November 30th, to be eligible to win this weeks giveaway.  I will select a winner using random.org and will post the winner's name Friday afternoon.  Good luck everyone!!

We wanted to have this special blog hop to celebrate this great crafting community where we laugh, play, and create together and encourage and inspire one another.

I am at CKC so I didn't get a layout done for my post, but I did get some great blog candy.  You must become a follower  and leave a comment on my blog by Monday, Oct. 8th at 11 pm EST. If you're already a follower, you'll be counted twice! One lucky reader will be randomly drawn and the winner will be posted on my blog on Wednesday, Oct. 10th. Good luck!!!

Layers, layers, and more layers

I love using layers of paper to add texture and interest to my pages.  I typically use coordinated papers in the collection with smaller prints from other collections that have similar colors.  Starting with a collection allows me to quickly put my pages together and get more pages done in the time I have available.

I used Bella Blvd papers from different collections for this layout.  I used different punches to create my layered embellishments and added an oval sticker to the second element.  I added even more visual interest to the first element by "layering" in some doodles with my Spica glitter marker.  I just love the look, the visual interest, and it never hurts to save money by using what you have on hand to create embellishments versus buying those that are put together by the manufacturers.

Sketchers Design Team Call

You know that I adore sketches.  I think they make a wonderful starting point for creating a layout.  There is a new sketch site, Sketchers, which will have new sketches each week.  They are looking for design team members to interpret the sketches and make examples for others to use as inspiration.

I've used their sketch and have included my interpretation below.  As I often do, I took the one page layout and turned it into a two page layout.

Please stop by their blog and enjoy my layout!!

Buttons and Pearls

I used another layout from iClassygirl.  I actually follwed this layout pretty close.  Since I was doing a more masculine page, I used buttons and pearls for my embellishments.  I often leave the button holes empty or tie twine through them.  I attended a class at CKC last year when we used brads in the button holes and I like that technique as well.  With this layout, I didn't want much bling and I wanted the focus to be on the pictures so i used the same pearls I was embellishing with in the button holes.  It was something just slightly differenct and quirky which I thought went well with the pictures.

Paper Giveaway Update

The blog is hosting a paper giveaway.  See the details at http://sacredmemoriespreserve.blogspot.com/2012/08/paper-giveaway.html

I started getting the paper ready for the giveaway and things quickly got out of control :o)  I stopped counting at 75 sheets in each box.  I then decided that for some of the sets, I may as well give the matching embellishments with the papers.  I also decided that there may as well be some card stock to go along with the patterend papers.  Again, things quickly got out of control.  Each set is different, but I tried to spread the pages as evenly as possible.  I also took updated pics of one of the boxes.

There is still plenty of time to enter.  All you need to do is follow my blogby August 30th.  Good luck!!!

Shave to Save Update

In May I donated some albums to a friend to help  her fundraising efforts for Shave to Save, an event to raise funds for Hope House which provides housing for patients and family members undergoing cancer treatment.  She was able to raise the funds needed to get her hair cut on stage.  A few months later and her hair is growing back by leaps and bounds.

Way to go, Holly!!!

Disney Princesses

My daughter has outgrown Disney princesses, but I still love the happy feelings I get when I see them.  I took a Disney princess paper pad and combined it with a K & Company pastel pad to ceate these fun pages.  I also used my latest and greatest tools, my Lucky 8 punches.

I went into my tool bin and pulled out an old cutting guide to create the Sleeping Beauty pages.  It's great to use older papers, embellishments, or tools to breath new life into your layouts.

More Sketch Translations

I used two sketches at iClassygirl.com to create more layouts.  I created a single page layout as displayed in the first sketch.  I translated the second sketch into a two page layout.  Sketches are a great starting point whether you've just started scrapbooking or, like me, you've been scrapping for a number of years.  You can make a literal translation onto your page or you can add your own "spice" to make it your own.

Sketch Translations

I love using sketches and putting my own spin on them.  I tell people that I am trying to encourage to start scrapbooking, that using a sketch is like taking a recipe and adding your own go to seasonings.  I created this layout using a Sketchabilities sketch.  Let me know what you think.

I also turned it into a two page spread.

8 x 8 Travel Album

This travel album is done in an 8 x 8 format.  It allows you to memorialize a trip on a small, less intimidating scale.

More graduation pages.  This album includes pages for each school year and was a lot off fun to make.
